Hey guys. I’ve been pulling my hair out trying to figure out what WE system to buy. Money isn’t really the issue. This will he my first system, but I want to make sure I have everything I need. I love the ease of use of the gen3 but I don’t like that I may not be able to sharpen different knives. I don’t think I really understand the difference between the basic and the gen 2 other than the upgraded arms. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Money is not an object for me… I’m very happy with the Pro II. It has the upgrades I need. I’ve been attempting to sharpen knives for 55 years. I was never really happy with my efforts. So in order to sharpen knives to the level that would make me happy, I weighed the gen III and they Pro II and I chose the Pro II.

I added a few things, balsa strops, 14000 and 50000 grit diamond pastes. and I bought a 5 dollar pistol case from a Guy at my gun club.

    Hey Butcher,

Welcome to the forum.  What to you want to sharpen?  Do you want to sharpen a bunch of knives or just your own?
The upgrade arms are better, less play = more precise, and allow precision adjustment to set any angle exactly.

If you are going to do a ton of knives the Gen 3 is faster to set the knife up.  If you want higher precision go with the PP II.

Oldewan, oldawan? Tools for sharp has videos on YouTube describing the differences. I also struggled with this and about an hour ago bought the pro pack 2. My thought was because I never used a wicked edge product before somethings would not matter the same as if I wanted to upgrade(i.e. Micro adjust arms) I’m not rich and actually very stingy with my money. However, after much debate with my butler, gardener, maid, chauffeur, dog walker, and celebrity chef I was able to make a decision. Good luck and know whatever you decide it will be a good choice.
