    Yesterday I watched a Gen 3 for the first time. I wondered what the plastic screw (pic 2) is for. Thanks!

    It stabilizes angle. Without it the angle may change a bit when sharpening. The part with  joint ball on top (to which arm is attached) can move a bit in the process of sharpening. So this screw is fixing its position and prevents angle deviation.

    Thanks! How often do you turn these screws? After every angle setting or only every so often or only after a a major angle change or…

    I rarely use them.  I tried at first, then would forget that I had tightened them, and then later wonder why it was so hard to move the angle adjust lever in front.

    It’s nice to have them, but for me they aren’t critical.  My $.02. Your mileage may vary.

    They’re really just there to keep the posts that hold the ball joints from wobbling while sharpening. They’re not critical to performance, more just for the experience of sharpening.
