thought this video was very cool, even though not WEPS, are you guys getting this level of shave sharp from 1000 grit? I just the thin blade definitely helps? I’m getting shave sharp, just not sure it’s auite this good yet, will have to pick up a butter knife and check hahaha.

Yes. The grit level isn’t nearly as important as the angle of the bevel and the thickness behind the edge when it comes to shaving. The disposable blades that I use in my safety razor are somewhere around a 400-600 grit level of polish. Clay has said that a highly polished bevel with a 200 grit micro-bevel will shave hair.

Okay my technique must suck! I’m getting the sharpest knives I ever had and I can shave with them but not as easily and effectively as that guy did.

I’ll practice when the loupe gets here and maybe when i get a usb microscope.

Give it time. Your stones are relatively new. Your knifes will improve as your stones break in and you technique becomes more consistent.

I wonder of butter knives are harder than (usual a) knife for cutting more hard material.

My technique is definitely getting there and stones are broken in, really happy with the results and sharpening up some good kitchen use knives (i.e. not highly polished) in a few minutes per knife 🙂

Looking forward to it, Niko! Given my shaving videos, I’m the last guy to try to stop you, but I would strongly advise against shaving your face off a 1K anything – and especially with the steel quality of silverware! But hey, it is fun to chase that rainbow and find out for yourself. There’s nothing better than learning from your own mistakes! So here’s a list of taunts for your encouragement:

Nicko – you’ll poke your eye out
    Nicko – don’t touch it
Nicko – don’t stick your finger in that hole
    Nicko – don’t shave off a 1K edge

Be sure to post a video of the shave!!!
