Easy cures for arm/stone "play"

I see that some of you engineering/machinist folks have bored out the paddles and countersunk bushings. I don’t have the skill or access to someone with that skill to do that….I saw Subway straws being used, but the ones I found didn’t allow the paddles to even slide on the arms.
What do you guys and gals do to reduce the “lash”?
