When I put the diamond paste on the leather strop I get a nice smooth action on the blade.  But a day late, with no added paste and the paste tends to flake and the stropping action is not smooth.  ???

Using Clay’s method , I lightly spritz the strop with Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol I have in a little “travel size” spray bottle I keep at my sharpening station. For me it provides a little bit of lubrication and helps stop the flake off. (Over time I read it may dry out the leather).

Try mineral oil instead. Works well for me, and doesn’t dry the leather out,
